Presentation – an absent kimono
BauKunst, Essen experiences architecture
The BDA project in 2002 was the reason for the collaboration with architect Holger Gravius to design this sculpture together.
The artistic challenge
The delicate fabric panels of a kimono had to be translated into the dimensions of a monumental sculpture without losing the characteristic proportions. The result makes the kimono experienceable in its new dimension – a sculpture that mediates between architecture and textile art.
Location
The sculpture stood for one and a half years in front of the Grillo Theater in Essen and has now found its place at Handke Garden and Landscape Construction in Essen.
